A Palais-Royal sewing box. French, cir 1790-1810. Size 7 and 1/2 ins or 16 cms across by 5 and a 1/2 ins Or 12 cms. A fruit wood box with silver embellishments. A silver freeze around the top and a silver handle with original key. Four brass bun feet.
Inside the fitments and tools are in mother-of-pearl with tiny enamel pansies or ‚pensez‚ in French [think of me]. Inside the lid is a mirror. Then a velvet pad [not shown]. The tools are two matching winders, A M.O.P thimble with pansy. An m.o.p bodkin. An m.o.p. stiletto with pansy and scissors with two swans. A silver gilt ear spoon and tooth pick, A scent bottle cork screw, an m.o.p needle case with pansy and a cut glass scent bottle with gilt metal top. If you lift out the tray by the pink ribbon handles ,it is empty to receive your embroidery.
